Automatically Adding Checklists When Issues Are Created

You can create a Default Checklist template that will be automatically added when issues of a given type are created in a project. Default checklists are specific to the Project and Issue Type, so each Project can have different default checklists.

Note that you can also use automation or the REST API to apply automatically apply checklists to new issues.

Limitations

  • With the exception of System Administrators, who have access to project administration even if they don't have Administer Projects permission in Jira, Administer Projects permission is required to create a default checklist. Read more about template permissions.

  • Note that default checklist are not compatible with automation rules that use the Issue Created trigger. Both actions depend on Jira’s Issue created notification and an order of operations error may occur.

  • Note that a cloned checklist takes precedence over the default checklist, so if an issue with a checklist is cloned, the default checklist will not be applied.

  • Every Jira workflow contains a Fire Issue Created post-function on the Create transition. This post-function is required for default checklists to work should not be removed.
