If you want to send an email to a mentioned user, then we do not support it directly, but it is possible to achieve it in Jira:
- a user search can use Jira Search for checklist items containing his/her mention (see the third bullet in the linked docs): https://gebsun-support.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IC/pages/774471744/Search+advanced+with+JQL

Soon, we will provide a simpler way to do it as there are two requests on our backlog that we want to implement:
- user will have an option to enable direct notifications through a toggle in configuration
- user will have a list of items where he/she is mentioned (displayed in their profile pages)
